This is a beautiful example of an Avant-Garde tubular furniture.

The concept of tubular design was first introduced mainly by the radical modernist architects from the Bauhaus school of Design. Mart Stam and Marcel Breuer were the two leading figures but due its popularity and demand for this type of furniture at the time, almost every well know architect ended up designing their own version of tubular steel furniture.

This piece was originally designed by a Modernist French Architect Emile Guyot in the 1930’s and was produced by the world renowned Thonet Furniture Company.

The idea behind the design was to make furniture that would match modern architecture. It was supposed to be functional, pristine, easy to use and visually light.  This flower stand is a prime example of this approach and eventually has become an icon.

The flower stand is made up of a series of three glass shelves at different heights and two continuous tubular frames. In the 1930's Thonet produced numerous variations of flower stands designed by different architects. It was a very popular piece of furniture and every modern household wanted one.

The flower stand is in good vintage condition. The steel frame has been cleaned and polished but there is some wear on the chrome acquired over the years, mainly in the bottom part. The glass parts have been made exactly as the damaged originals and are in perfect condition.
