This dining set is a great example of the radical Bauhaus aesthetic. Simple, functional and as modern as when it was first designed, it perfectly represents the ethos of the avant-garde movement. What makes the design of these chairs distinctive is the way the seat is supported by two horizontal tubular bars so that the design looks effortless with no visible screws. This system was actually registered as a Czechoslovakian patent.

This set was produced in 1930's by Vichr a Spol. in Czechoslovakia. The chairs are featured in the company’s original furniture catalogue under number 1242 and the table as 1037.

The Vichr Company originally started as a producer of kitchen utensils but after 1928 they became one of the leading manufactures of tubular furniture in Czechoslovakia. Their furniture was popular for its design and quality.

Today it is virtually impossible to find a set of four matching cantilevered chairs and table, so we are particularly pleased to be able to offer this as a complete set.

The wooden parts of the piece have been refurbished by our experienced restorer who specialises in Modernist furniture, and are in perfect vintage condition with some minor patina. The steel frames have been cleaned and polished, there is some wear and tear on parts of the steel frame acquired over the years.
