Modernist Tubular Chair
Modernist Tubular Chair
This cantilevered tubular chair was originally designed by the legendary Dutch modernist architect Mart Stam in the 1920’s for the Thonet Company. This particular piece was produced in Czechoslovakia in 1961 by the Kovona furniture company.
It is a great example of the radical Bauhaus aesthetic. Original, yet simple and functional, it represents the ethos of the avant-garde movement.
Overall, the tubular frame is in great vintage condition with minor sign of wear and tear. The veneered plywood has been recently refurbished to the highest standard using original techniques and finishes, reviving the natural pattern of both the seat and the backrest which were subsequently finished by hand in Nitro varnish.
