Pair of Mid Century Tatra Armchairs; Model No. 24-23 by Frantisek Jirak

€0.00

A pair of the iconic Tatra armchairs (model No. 24-23) made in 1960’s with their stand out expressive bentwood armrests. Frantisek Jirak, the designer of these chairs was one of the most important figures of the Czech Mid 20th century furniture design. His work was clearly inspired by Charles and Ray Eames as well as the Scandinavian designers.

The Tatra Nabytok Factory was founded in 1945 in the Slovakian town of Pravenec. The factory used the buildings originally built by the famous shoe company Bata. During the 1960s Tatra Nabytok became the biggest furniture maker in former Czechoslovakia and produced some of the most iconic pieces of Czech furniture design, including this popular No. 24-23 armchair.

The design of the wooden parts was very progressive and technically followed the tradition of the bentwood technology introduced by Thonet.

These armchairs are very comfortable and enjoyable to sit on. It's design perfectly fits into both a modern or more traditional interior with it’s new upholstery and high quality fabric from Kirkby Design.

Both chairs are in great vintage condition. The wooden frames were polished and the seats were reupholstered in ‘Arcade - Signal Tomato’ fabric by Kirkby Design
