Art Nouveau Three-Legged Chair Model No.81 by Gebrüder Thonet

€580.00

This rare Thonet Art Nouveau tripod chair was designed in 1904, and in the Thonet catalogue of 1906 (see image below) it is depicted as "Schreibfauteuil Nr. 81", which translates as a writing chair.

What makes this chair stand out is the playful design with arcs of bentwood intersecting to create a light effortless geometrical effect. Also it’s large unusual triangular seat makes it extremely comfortable to sit on.

This piece is a fine example of the timeless aesthetics and the high quality and comfort that came to be synonymous the the Gebrüder Thonet company. Their trademark use of bent wooden parts that both act to give the chair extra stability as well as a form of abstract decoration.

Chair No.81 became an icon over the years and was a very difficult piece to find, so the Thonet Company released an edition in 1991 as chair No.225 which was a copy based on the original design.

This chair is in great vintage condition, with some normal wear and patina on the surface gained from its use over the years. The piece is structurally fine without any damage to the construction.
