Set of 6 Mid Century Modern Dining Chairs

A rare set of six Mid‑Century Modern dining chairs preserved with an authentic character. Crafted in Czechoslovakia during the 1960s, each piece reflects the elegant intersection of Czech “Brussel” style with Scandi and French influences.

These chairs were created by renowned Czech designer Antonín Šuman for the iconic TON Furniture Company—a continuation of Thonet’s legacy established in 1953. Šuman’s design language is evident in the refined geometry, organic curves, and perfect balance of form and function. Clean, flared legs, a gracefully curved plywood backrest in various pastel colours reflect the essence of post‑war European design.

Each chair features its original painted finish in a softly faded pastel tone. The colours have gracefully aged over time, resulting in a beautiful natural patina with some signs of wear, small scuffs, and softened edges that tell the story of six decades of use and care. The wood grain remains gently visible beneath the paint, adding warmth and depth.

Kept in completely original condition, structurally sound with stable joints and authentic surface wear. We’ve chosen not to restore or repaint them, preserving the character that comes only with decades of honest use.

This set is a celebration of subtle, refined mid‑century craft—comfortable yet graceful, understated but full of character.
