Pair of 1950s bedside tables

Pair of 1950s bedside tables
A charming pair of 1950s bedside tables crafted from wood with walnut veneer and topped with elegant white opaxite glass.
The design features softly curved corners on one side, creating a gentle asymmetry that is characteristic of Mid-century furniture from Central Europe. Each cabinet has a well-balanced composition consisting of a larger door and a smaller drawer above it, both fitted with contrasting round dark-brown handles. The slightly overhanging white glass top adds a light and refined touch while protecting the wooden surface.
Although the designer remains unknown, the bedside tables were most likely produced in former Czechoslovakia during the 1950s — a period known for its thoughtful combination of practicality and elegant modernist forms. Pieces like these were a staple of many stylish bedrooms of the time, and numerous variations were produced to suit different interiors.
Both bedside tables have been recently refurbished and carefully brought back to their former glory. The surfaces have been hand-finished using traditional shellac and nitro varnishes in order to recreate the original gloss typical of the period.
One of the white opaxite glass tops has a very small chip; otherwise the pair remains in excellent vintage condition, showing only minimal wear consistent with age and use.
