This elegant set of four dining chairs was produced by Thonet in the late 1940s. A beautiful example of postwar European modernism, the chairs combine Thonet’s signature craftsmanship with a warm, organic aesthetic.

Their design is defined by gently curved backrests and distinctively shaped seats upholstered in a bright red fabric that contrasts beautifully with the light honey tone of the beech wood. This combination not only makes the chairs visually striking but also ensures excellent comfort and ergonomics - the curves naturally follow the shape of the body.

A clever and functional detail is that the upholstered seat can be easily removed, allowing the chairs to be stacked when necessary and making it simple to replace or reupholster the fabric over time.

One of the most distinctive design details lies in the sculptural backrest supports, which transition from a round profile at the bottom to a flattened shape at the top. This subtle but refined solution is rare even within Thonet’s extensive production, making these chairs truly unique.

The set is in excellent vintage condition. The wooden frames show only minimal signs of age and a light patina consistent with careful use. Structurally, the chairs are sound and stable. The upholstery has been replaced with an identical replica of the original fabric, ensuring authenticity while refreshing their look for contemporary interiors.
