1960s Scandi Dining Chair

€0.00

This beautifully proportioned dining chair is a fabulous example of elegance of Mid-Century design. Dating most likely from the 1960s, it combines a striking walnut-veneered backrest with a wonderfully light and sculptural wooden frame, creating a piece that feels both refined and remarkably contemporary.

The generously shaped backrest is perhaps its most distinctive feature. Gently curved to follow the body, its beautifully figured walnut veneer becomes an integral part of the design, allowing the natural character and grain of the wood to provide the decoration. The slender, tapered legs and carefully constructed frame give the chair an exceptional sense of lightness, while the softly rounded seat introduces just the right amount of organic softness.

Its restrained proportions and combination of warm wood, elegant geometry and organic curves place it firmly within the Scandinavian-influenced Mid-Century aesthetic. The design recalls the work of several Danish furniture makers of the period, including the understated forms associated with manufacturers such as Farstrup and Findahl, while remaining an individual and rather unusual example in its own right.

The chair is currently in good vintage condition, with some minor signs of age and use throughout. These gentle traces of time add to the character and authenticity of the piece without detracting from its overall appearance. The original upholstery had sadly deteriorated beyond repair and has been replaced with a new mustard-yellow fabric, carefully chosen to complement the chair's original Mid-Century character and warm walnut tones.

A particularly elegant piece for a dining room, desk or occasional seating, it would work beautifully as part of a larger Mid-Century interior or as a standalone statement chair.

An attractive and rather rare example of anonymous Scandinavian-influenced furniture from the 1960s, where thoughtful proportions, natural materials and honest craftsmanship take centre stage.
