1930s Czechoslovak Modernist Drinks Cabinet
1930s Czechoslovak Modernist Drinks Cabinet
This elegant Modernist drinks cabinet was most likely designed and produced in former Czechoslovakia during the 1930s.
Defined by its soft curves and carefully considered details, the piece combines functionality with refined craftsmanship. The two glazed doors feature a subtle abstract motif, complemented by handwoven rattan accents that bring warmth, texture, and depth to the design.
The cabinet is arranged across three thoughtfully designed sections. The upper shelf, framed in glass, is ideal for displaying bottles or decorative objects. Beneath it, a partially enclosed compartment with sliding glass doors provides practical storage for glassware and bar essentials. The lower open shelf, finished in woven rattan, offers additional space for books, magazines, or larger accessories.
Delicate trim detailing runs along the middle and lower frames, while the elegantly curved upper section softens the cabinet’s overall silhouette. Resting on four original steel castor wheels, the piece can be moved and repositioned with ease.
Although the designer and manufacturer remain unknown, the quality of craftsmanship, restrained modernist form, and use of materials strongly suggest production by one of the leading Central European furniture makers of the period, possibly UP Brno or Thonet.
