An elegant 1930s Czechoslovak drinks cabinet combining warm oak, patterned glass and handwoven rattan within a softly curved Modernist form.

Three practical storage levels provide space for bottles, glassware and decorative objects, while the original steel castors allow the cabinet to be moved easily. Professionally restored, it is a distinctive and versatile piece for both period and contemporary interiors.

About the Cabinet

Most likely produced in former Czechoslovakia during the 1930s, this drinks cabinet combines the clean geometry of Modernism with the refined materials and decorative detailing associated with Art Deco furniture.

The cabinet is arranged across three carefully designed levels. The glass-framed upper shelf provides an elegant surface for displaying bottles or decorative objects. Beneath it, a partially enclosed compartment with sliding patterned-glass doors offers practical storage for glassware and bar accessories.

The lower open shelf is finished in handwoven rattan, introducing warmth and texture while providing additional space for bottles, books or magazines.

Subtle trim details define the middle and lower sections, while the elegantly curved top softens the cabinet’s architectural form. The cabinet is fitted with four steel castors, allowing it to be moved and repositioned with ease.

Design & Attribution

The quality of construction, restrained Modernist form and sophisticated combination of oak, glass, steel and woven rattan suggest production by one of the leading Central European furniture manufacturers of the period. The cabinet is attributed to UP Brno or Thonet.

Condition & Conservation

The cabinet has been carefully cleaned and conserved with the intention of preserving as much of its original material, finish and character as possible. The wooden surfaces retain a gentle patina and minor signs of age consistent with nearly a century of use.

The original top glass was broken and has been replaced with newly cut glass. The cabinet is fitted with later replacement castors, allowing it to be moved easily while remaining suitable for practical use.

The sliding patterned-glass doors function correctly, the construction is stable and the cabinet is ready for use. Please refer to the photographs for a detailed record of its condition.
