Delivery & Returns

At By Barnabas, every piece is individually sourced, carefully checked and prepared for its journey from our studio in Brno, Czech Republic.

We understand that purchasing vintage furniture online - particularly from another country - requires trust. We therefore provide detailed photographs, accurate condition descriptions and personal assistance before, during and after delivery.

If you would like to confirm a measurement, request additional photographs or discuss delivery before ordering, please contact Martin and Amy at info@bybarnabas.com.

Delivery from Brno

We deliver furniture, lighting, homeware and collectible design throughout Europe and worldwide.

Depending on the size, value, fragility and destination of your order, we use trusted international couriers or specialist furniture carriers. Each piece is packed according to its individual requirements, with particular care given to original finishes, glass, upholstery and other delicate components.

The available delivery method and applicable cost are stated on the individual product page, confirmed at checkout or agreed with you in writing before the purchase is completed.

Estimated Delivery Times

Estimated delivery times are generally:

Europe: approximately 3-5 working days for courier shipments

International destinations: approximately 5-14 working days for courier shipments

Large furniture delivered by a specialist carrier: arranged individually according to the destination and the carrier’s route

These are estimates rather than guaranteed delivery dates unless a specific date has been expressly agreed in writing. Customs procedures, local import requirements, weather, transport disruption and other circumstances outside our reasonable control may occasionally cause delays.

We will keep you informed and provide tracking information or delivery updates whenever these are available.

Furniture Delivery & Access

Unless expressly agreed otherwise, furniture delivery is made to the building entrance or another reasonably accessible ground-floor delivery point.

Please tell us before completing your purchase about anything that could affect delivery, including:

Narrow doors, corridors or staircases

Upper-floor delivery or the absence of a lift

Restricted parking or vehicle access

Pedestrian zones or timed access restrictions

The need for additional people to carry the item

Any particularly difficult or unusual access conditions

Specialist carrying, upper-floor delivery, timed delivery, assembly or additional labour may incur an extra charge. We will always explain and agree any additional charge with you in advance.

Please check the measurements of both the item and its intended route into your property before ordering. We are happy to provide additional measurements where required.

Worldwide Delivery, Customs & Import Charges

Orders delivered outside the European Union may be subject to import VAT, customs duties, clearance charges or other local fees.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, these charges are not included in the product or delivery price and are the responsibility of the recipient. The amount is determined by the authorities in the destination country, and we may not be able to calculate it in advance.

Please check the applicable import requirements before purchasing. We will provide the carrier and customs authorities with the documentation reasonably required for the shipment.

Sustainable Delivery

Choosing vintage furniture helps extend the useful life of a well-made object and reduces demand for newly manufactured goods.

Whenever appropriate, we reuse cardboard boxes and other suitable packaging materials. Much of our packaging is prepared by hand in our Brno studio and individually adapted to the shape, size and fragility of each piece. This allows us to protect the item properly while avoiding unnecessary packaging wherever possible.

We prioritise reused and recycled materials when they can provide the required level of protection. For particularly fragile or valuable objects, we may also use new or specialist packing materials where these are necessary to ensure safe delivery.

We also support reforestation projects through Tree-Nation by funding tree planting in connection with our shipments. These measures form part of our continuing effort to reduce the environmental impact associated with packing and transporting furniture internationally.

We do not describe our deliveries as carbon-neutral, as the environmental impact of transportation and packaging cannot be eliminated entirely.

Checking Your Order on Arrival

Please inspect your order as soon as reasonably possible after delivery.

If the packaging appears significantly damaged, please photograph it before opening where possible. Please also retain the packaging until you have confirmed that the item has arrived safely.

If an item has been damaged during transportation, contact us promptly at info@bybarnabas.com and include:

Your name and order or invoice number

Photographs of the packaging

Photographs of the item and the damage

A brief description of what has happened

Reporting transport damage promptly helps us resolve the matter with the carrier. It does not affect any statutory consumer rights you may have.

For consumer orders arranged through one of our delivery methods, responsibility for loss or damage generally remains with By Barnabas until the goods are delivered to you or to a person nominated by you other than the carrier.

Returns and the 14-Day Right of Withdrawal

If you are a consumer purchasing online, you generally have the statutory right to withdraw from the purchase contract within 14 days without giving a reason, subject to the exceptions provided by applicable law.

For goods, the 14-day period normally begins on the day that you, or a third party nominated by you other than the carrier, take physical possession of the order.

You may also notify us that you wish to withdraw before the goods have been delivered.

To exercise this right, email info@bybarnabas.com within the applicable 14-day period and clearly state that you wish to withdraw from the purchase. You may use the model withdrawal form at the bottom of this page, but its use is not compulsory.

After notifying us, you must return the goods without undue delay and no later than 14 days after the date on which you informed us of your decision, unless we have agreed to collect them.

Please contact us before arranging a return so that we can help identify a safe and suitable method of transportation.

Return Costs

For a change-of-mind return made under the statutory right of withdrawal, the customer bears the direct cost of returning the goods unless we have agreed otherwise.

Small items that can normally be returned by post or parcel courier may be sent using an appropriate tracked and adequately insured service.

Furniture and other large or fragile objects generally require a professional furniture carrier. As a practical estimate, the cost of returning such an item within Europe is likely to be broadly comparable to the original delivery charge stated on the product page or provided in our delivery quotation. The actual return cost can vary according to the destination, dimensions, access conditions and availability of a suitable carrier.

If requested before purchase, we will provide a more specific estimate for returning a particular item from your destination.

We may be able to arrange return transportation on your behalf. Any return transport charge payable by you will be explained and agreed before collection is arranged.

If an item is faulty, incorrectly supplied or damaged in transit and By Barnabas is legally responsible, the reasonable cost of returning or collecting it will be borne by By Barnabas rather than the customer.

Preparing a Return

Returned goods must be protected and packaged appropriately for transportation.

Where possible, please retain and reuse the original packaging. For large furniture, professional packing or blanket-wrapped specialist transport may be necessary.

You are responsible for any reduction in value caused by handling beyond what is reasonably necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

This does not prevent you from inspecting the item in the same way that you could reasonably inspect it in a physical gallery or shop.

Refunds

Following a valid withdrawal, we will reimburse the payments received from you, including the cost of the least expensive standard delivery method offered for your order.

If you selected a more expensive delivery option, we are not required to reimburse the additional amount attributable to that option.

Refunds will be made without undue delay and no later than 14 days after we receive your withdrawal notice. We may withhold the refund until we have received the returned goods or you have provided evidence that they have been sent back, whichever occurs first.

Unless otherwise agreed, the refund will be made using the same payment method used for the original transaction.

Any agreed return transportation charge payable by you may be deducted from the refund only where this has been clearly communicated and agreed.

Vintage Condition and Faulty Goods

Our collection consists primarily of vintage, antique and previously used objects. Signs of age, wear, patina, earlier repairs or restoration may therefore form part of an item’s character.

We describe and photograph these characteristics as accurately as reasonably possible. A characteristic or sign of wear that was clearly described, photographed or otherwise disclosed before purchase is not treated in the same way as an undisclosed defect.

Your statutory rights relating to faulty or misdescribed goods are separate from the 14-day right of withdrawal. You do not need to report a defect within 14 days in order to preserve any statutory rights that apply.

If you believe an item is faulty or materially different from its description, please contact us at info@bybarnabas.com. We will assess the matter and provide an appropriate remedy in accordance with applicable law.

Exceptions

The statutory right of withdrawal does not apply where an exception under applicable law applies. This may include goods made to the customer’s specifications or clearly personalised for the customer.

The fact that an item is vintage, antique or unique does not by itself remove a consumer’s statutory right of withdrawal.

Business Customers

The statutory consumer right of withdrawal applies to consumers and does not generally apply to purchases made wholly or mainly for business or professional purposes.

Any return by a business customer is subject to our written agreement and does not affect rights that cannot legally be excluded.

Contact Us

If you have any questions about delivery, access, returns or the condition of an item, please contact us before purchasing. We would much rather answer an additional question than leave you uncertain.
