About the Tables

Produced in former Czechoslovakia during the 1950s, these bedside tables balance practical storage with the restrained elegance of Central European Mid-Century design.

Each table features a drawer above a spacious cupboard, both fitted with contrasting round dark-brown handles. The gently asymmetrical form is defined by softly curved corners on one side, giving the otherwise compact design a particularly elegant profile.

The slightly overhanging white opaxite glass tops introduce a fresh contrast to the warm walnut veneer while providing a durable and easily maintained surface.

Although their designer and manufacturer remain unknown, the quality of construction and carefully considered proportions make this an especially attractive example of Czechoslovak bedroom furniture from the period.

Condition & Restoration

Both bedside tables have recently been professionally restored. Their wooden surfaces were carefully refurbished and hand-finished using traditional shellac and nitro varnishes, recreating the subtle gloss characteristic of the period.

One of the white opaxite glass tops has a very small chip. Otherwise, the tables remain in excellent vintage condition, with only minimal signs of age and previous use.

Both pieces are stable, functional and ready for everyday use.
