About the Piece

Produced in former Czechoslovakia during the 1960s, this compact cabinet is a charming example of the colourful and practical furniture created for the modern post-war interior.

The simple beech construction is complemented by white Formica surfaces and a pair of sliding doors, keeping the overall form clean and functional. Inside, an unexpected green interior contains two adjustable shelves, which can be repositioned or removed completely.

The most distinctive feature, however, is the top. Its graphic green-and-white patterned surface introduces a playful decorative element to an otherwise restrained piece of furniture.

Compact proportions make the cabinet particularly versatile. Originally intended as practical storage furniture, today it could work equally well as a side cabinet, bedside table or small storage piece.

Condition & Restoration

The cabinet is in very good vintage condition and retains its original surfaces and finishes.

The wooden elements show light signs of age and previous use, including small marks and areas of patina. The Formica surfaces are particularly well preserved, with only minimal age-related wear.

We have deliberately retained these small traces of use rather than over-restoring the piece, preserving its original character.

The cabinet has been carefully checked, cleaned and prepared for use in our Brno workshop. Both sliding doors operate correctly and the two internal shelves can be adjusted or removed as required.

Please refer to the photographs for a detailed record of its condition.

Why We Like It

For us, it is all about the colour and the unexpected details. From the outside, this appears to be a simple white cabinet; slide the doors open and suddenly there is that wonderful green interior. Then there is the patterned top, which gives the whole piece an almost graphic quality.

We also love its size. At just 77 cm wide, it is one of those genuinely useful vintage pieces that can find a place almost anywhere - while still bringing plenty of personality to a room.
