A distinctive wooden wall shelf dating from the 1960s, with a striking angular construction and warm honey-toned beech.

Believed to have been designed and produced in former Czechoslovakia, the shelf reflects the practical yet visually inventive approach characteristic of Central European post-war furniture design.

Design

The simplicity of the piece is animated by its unusual profile. The side supports are sharply angled at both the upper and lower sections, extending beyond the horizontal shelves and giving the otherwise restrained construction a dynamic, almost sculptural silhouette.

Made from beech, the wood has a warm honey colour with an attractive natural grain that remains clearly visible throughout. The combination of geometric form and natural material gives the shelf a particularly pleasing balance between functional modernism and decorative detail.

Compact and versatile, it works equally well as a bookshelf or as a display shelf for ceramics, glass, books and smaller objects.

Condition & Restoration

The shelf is in very good vintage condition, with light signs of age and previous use consistent with a piece of this period.
