About the Piece

The charm of this stool lies in the relationship between its curved seat and the angles beneath it. The seat dips gently through the centre and rises towards the edges, giving the upper part an almost suspended appearance. Below, four tapered legs spread outward, anchoring the form without making it feel heavy.

Viewed from the front, the broad wooden curve is particularly expressive. It creates a clear, continuous line beneath the cushion, with the light colour of the beech making its shape easy to appreciate. From an angle, the stool becomes more animated: the legs lead the eye in different directions, while the raised edges of the seat give the outline a subtle tension.

The cushion follows the curve of the wooden seat rather than concealing it. Its warm brown colour sits comfortably against the lighter frame, and the folds in the fabric introduce a softer, less formal texture. This contrast is part of the stool’s appeal - a precisely shaped wooden structure with an inviting upholstered surface.

There is very little additional detail, and the piece benefits from that restraint. The grain, the taper of the legs and the sweep of the seat provide enough interest on their own. The original cushion was beyond repair and has been replaced with a new cushion matching the original design, maintaining the stool’s appearance and comfort.
