Bright Red 1950's Modernist cantilevered Chair

Bright Red 1950's Modernist cantilevered Chair
This is an Modernist cantilevered chair produced by the Kovona Company in the 1950’s, in Czechoslovakia.
The design of this model goes back to the late 1920’s and it is truly a great example of an innovative aesthetic developed by architects around Bauhaus Art school.
The progressive new design of a cantilevered chair was originally designed by Dutch architect Mart Stam. It was presented for the first time to general public in Stam's project of social housing at the revolutionary Werkbund Die Wohnung exhibition in Stuttgart in 1927.
This particular chair was produced in the 1950's by Kovona, which was a state run manufacturer that grouped all the famous Czech pre-war independent furniture producers like Slezak, Gottwald, Mucke Melder, Vichr etc., and who made furniture using all these factories and their licences.
The chair is in good vintage condition with some wear (mainly on the bottom part) of the steel frame and with some wear gained over the years on the wooden parts (mainly on the backrest). It’s been painted a pillar box red which works wonderfully with the steel and the Bauhaus aesthetics.
