1960's Mid Century Dining Chair Model U - 300 by Antonin Suman
1960's Mid Century Dining Chair Model U - 300 by Antonin Suman
This is a dining chair model U -300 and it was produced by Interier Praha Company in former Czechoslovakia.
This simple slender beech frame dining chair was designed in 1967 by the renown Czech furniture designer Antonin Suman. The softly curved bentwood backrest is a typical design aesthetic of this era and overall it perfectly embodies the elegance of the so-called Brussels Style (named after the Expo in Brussels where Czechoslovakia won 13 prizes including one in the furniture category). This model actually won the golden price for the best design at Expo 1968 in Montreal. The upholstered seat is padded and comfortable to seat on. The original fabric was sadly damaged beyond repair and therefore was replaced by a new one, which nicely contrasts with the colour of the beech wood.
Chair is in great vintage condition. The beech frame has been polished by hand using Shellac varnish and the original damaged fabric has been replaced.
