This is an original and quite rare flower vase model 541 was designed by Czech sculptor Jindrich Marek and produced in the 1960’s by renowned Royal Dux Bohemia in former Czechoslovakia.

Jindrich Marek’s work is perhaps not as well known and appreciated as the work of his friend and colleague Jaroslav Jezek, but Jindrich Marek was definitely a great artist and designer.

After graduating from Academy of Arts in Prague, where Marek studied under legendary sculptor Otto Eckert, Jindrich Marek started his career at Royal Dux ceramics.

In the beginning, his work was influenced by the Mid Century Modern movement which he then continued to develop further in terms of shapes and decoration. But Marek also had a very subtle and delicate style, perhaps slightly reminiscent of Japanese porcelain in its simple organic forms and certain “visual fragility”.

This piece is a fine example of this Marek’s artistic approach. It a bijou porcelain vase for a single flower in a very light blue colour finish. It’s shape is slightly uneven and gives the impression to be handmade.

This vase is in perfect vintage condition without any chips, damage or wear.
