1960s Ceramic Ashtray by Jaroslav Jezek for Royal Dux

€120.00

Designed in the 1960s by Jaroslav Ježek, one of the most influential Czech designers of the mid-century era, this ceramic piece is a small but striking example of his sculptural approach to everyday objects. Created for Royal Dux, the celebrated porcelain and ceramic factory in Duchcov, former Czechoslovakia, it reflects the period when Ježek was exploring fluid, asymmetric forms inspired by nature and organic geometry.

The ashtray’s silhouette is wonderfully shell-like and oval, almost reminiscent of an opening egg form, with a soft, flowing rim that feels both modern and tactile. Its colour palette is equally distinctive: a smooth ivory exterior contrasted by a radiant purple interior, at the centre of which appears a stylised fish motif - a playful, almost abstract detail typical of Ježek’s artistic sensibility.

Although originally designed as an ashtray, its sculptural beauty makes it just as suitable today as a small bowl, a jewellery dish, or simply a decorative accent that adds a touch of Czech mid-century design to any interior.

This piece is in perfect vintage conditionwith no chips or cracks, and carries the Royal Dux mark on the underside, a sign of its authenticity and craftsmanship.

A refined example of mid-century Czech ceramic design, both functional and collectible.
