1960s Tabouret

€150.00

This refined Mid-Century tabouret is an elegant example of Czechoslovak furniture from the 1960s, a period when local designers increasingly absorbed the language of Scandinavian design. The influence is unmistakable here: the piece is defined by its clarity of form, the warmth of natural materials, and a commitment to everyday practicality elevated through good design.

Believed to have been designed and produced under ULUV - the state supported Centre for Folk Art Production- this stool reflects the institution’s mission to bring thoughtful, well-crafted design into Czechoslovak homes. ULUV pieces from this era are admired for their honest construction, subtle detailing, and timeless aesthetic sensibility.

The tabouret stands onfour angled, tapered beechwood legs, showcasing the lightly honeyed tone and natural grain that characterised much of the country’s mid-century production. Their splayed, lightweight geometry gives the piece a gentle dynamism while ensuring everyday stability.

The rectangular seat has been newly upholstered, replacing fabric that had sadly deteriorated beyond restoration. The chosen textile - a textured blue reminiscent of 1960s palettes, echoes the original era while offering a fresh, striking contrast against the beechwood frame. Beneath it, the padding provides a comfortable, supportive sitting experience, staying true to the pragmatic design ethos of the time.

Simple, balanced, and beautifully proportioned, this 1960s tabouret brings the quiet sophistication of Czech mid-century design into contemporary interiors.

The tabouret is in very good vintage condition with some minimal wear on the wooden legs gained over the years.
