1960s Czech Mid-Century Wall Light by Pokrok Zilina, Danish Style Design

Designed and produced in the 1960s by Pokrok Žilina in former Czechoslovakia, this expressive wall light captures the quiet confidence of Mid-Century modern design. Sculptural yet restrained, it balances warm natural materials with a distinctly architectural steel construction.

The piece is anchored by wooden base, designed to be mounted to the wall at two fixing points on the reverse. From this base extends a slender wooden rod - an elegant structural gesture that both supports and visually anchors the composition. A cream plastic cable runs through the wooden rod, suspending steel frame that holds the central glass shade and bulb. The result is a beautifully balanced interplay of tension and lightness.

The design echoes the refined minimalism of Danish modern lighting. Its a reminiscent of works by A. Bang Jensen and Kjeld Iversen, yet retains its own distinctly Czechoslovak character. The almost constructivist steel frame contrasts with the warmth of the wood, while the glass shade softens the overall expression, creating a subtle and atmospheric glow.

The on/off switch is located on the original cable, and the lamp retains its European plug. All components - including the switch, bulb fitting, cord, and plug are original and fully functional.

The light is in great vintage condition. There is minor, age-appropriate wear to the steel frame, consistent with time and use. The wooden elements and glass shade are beautifully preserved, with no chips or cracks. A well-kept and authentic example of 1960s lighting design.

A striking piece that is ideal for adding sculptural character to a hallway, bedroom, or reading corner.
